From June 26 to 28, 2024, the city of Stavanger hosted a new Study Tour, bringing together members (and their food event organizers) from five cities: Malmö, Tartu, Helsinki, Lyon and Montréal.
This tour gave the guests the opportunity to
- experience, learn more and take inspiration from Gladmat, Scandinavia's leading food festival
- showcase culinary talents of two young Chefs
These two Chefs were selected among 8 candidates from Délice city members, to showcase their cuisine in an international setting dedicated to Délice, during 4 workshops on vegetables, fish, meat and leftovers #nowaste: Malmö (Chef Frida Nilsson) and Tartu (Chef Andrus Saartok) .
In parallel to the Chefs’ workshops, the other guests experienced interesting activities, discussions and field visits:
After an icebreaker evening, the official program kicked off on Wednesday, June 26th. The day began with a meet-up at Market Square, followed by the official Gladmat opening and a first tour of the festival.
In the afternoon, guests discovered the behind-the-scenes workings of the festival. This included an exploration of the festival setup, emergency services, and medical facilities.
The evening was dedicated to freely exploring the festival and dining within the vibrant Gladmat Festival area.
On Thursday, June 27th, the focus shifted to learning and sustainability. A session at the municipal building featured presentations from Rogaland Region, Stavanger Municipality and Gladmat Festival Direction on sustainable food production and festival management, including waste management strategies.
This was followed by a tour of the Gladmat Festival, lunch stops, and cider tastings of local brews.
The afternoon included a tour through Pedersgata, known for its food and street art, hosted by Visit Region Stavanger.
The evening allowed more time for independent exploration and dining at the Bistrovaganza evening, hold by Chef Sven Eric Renaa, from the 3 starred Michelin restaurant Re-Naa.
The official Study Tour program ended on June 27th, but participants were encouraged to stay and enjoy additional activities.
On Friday, June 28th, a visit to a local fish farm owned by the company Teal, was organized by Gladmat.
In the afternoon, participants had the option to visit Flor & Fjære, a stunning island garden experience.
On Saturday, June 29th, a private hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) was offered. This full-day hike, provided a breathtaking end to the tour, showcasing Norway's natural beauty.
The Stavanger Study Tour was a success, offering participants an in-depth and behind the scenes look at one of Scandinavia's premier food festival.
With opportunities to learn, explore, and taste, the tour tightened the connections within the Délice Network and highlighted the work of the culinary festivals in both the host and participating cities.
The tour not only celebrated food, but also emphasized sustainability and cultural exchange, strengthening the spirit of the Délice Network.
We are extremely thankful to the city of Stavanger and the Gladmat Festival for hosting this inspiring event.
